A public service vehicle (PSV) bus, which was ferrying passengers, overturned at the Roysambu roundabout on Sunday evening, September 8, 2024, just a few minutes before 4 pm.
According to eyewitnesses who were at the scene, the bus driver was trying to avoid hitting a pedestrian who was crossing which resulted in the crash.
Several people sustained injuries with no casualty so far reported.
The emergency response and first aid services were delayed which caused an uproar from an angry mob that had gathered moments after the crash.
The mob grew impatient and became agitated, forcing police who arrived at the scene to try to disperse them.
The accident took place opposite TRM Shopping Mall but the number of injured passengers was yet to be established by the time of publishing this story.
Some passengers with injuries were pulled out of the wreckage of the bus by good Samaritans before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
Videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed an overturned vehicle by the roadside while witnesses attempted to remove passengers stuck inside the bus.
Following the accident, a heavy snarl-up formed curtailing the flow of traffic as people gathered to take a look. The police are yet to issue an official statement regarding the accident.
Separately, another accident involving a personal car that rammed into a stationary truck occurred along Thika Road at Roasters area. Two people reportedly passed away following the accident.
This comes barely a week after the country woke up to shock and tragedy as 12 people perished in a grisly road accident at Nithi Bridge along Meru Embu Road.
The NTSA estimates that 3,000 people die in road accidents every year, with many of the accidents occurring on weekends, during festivities and public holidays
