There was drama in Kilimani on Sunday, September 8, after Nairobi County’s Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria stormed a party to demand a reduction of noise pollution.
A video clip that went viral on social media platforms showed the chief officer in charge of the environment engaged in a heated altercation with the party-goers who seemed reluctant to turn down the music.
Mosiria gatecrashed the party, which was mostly attended by Nigerians, ordering the organisers to lower the volume since neighbours in the Kilimani area were complaining of loud music.
The chief officer was willing to allow the revelers to continue partying as long as there was no noise from the music. This, however, did not go down well with some of the people at the venue.
"People are sleeping, please. Moving forward, no music will be played here. You can continue partying, but no music," Mosiria can be heard saying in the video.
One of the merrymakers, visibly upset that their party had been disrupted, engaged Mosiria in a verbal altercation after the latter threatened to call authorities to shut down the party.
"You will know (who I am). In two minutes you will know," the man, presumably of Nigerian descent, could be heard saying.
Mosiria has gained traction on social media in recent weeks, with his latest attempt to restore sanity in Nairobi coming just weeks after he exposed the rot in the street food industry in the city.
On August 15, he went viral after exposing a shockingly unhygienic hotel at the bus station area in the Central Business District (CBD).
He unearthed a worrying trend of the food kiosk vendors' tendency to store their apparatus in public toilets, posing a serious health risk to their customers.
In addition, the hotel, which stocked kebabs and boiled eggs among other food, was found to be in deplorable condition regarding cleanliness.
The hotel has since been shut down.
