President William Ruto on Thursday announced the government's intention to enrol over two hundred thousand youths from across the country into the environment sustainability programme.
Speaking during the Nairobi River Regeneration project launch in Nairobi, the Head of State revealed the government would first employ about twenty thousand youth from Nairobi in the Climate WorX Mtaani Initiative before progressing to other counties.
According to the president, the enrollment of Nairobi youths into the government project would begin on October 1 with youths urged to maximise the opportunity and apply for the jobs.
President Ruto further noted that the counties of Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa and Uasin Gishu would also be considered among the first batch of beneficiaries of the initiative.
"The initiative will start in Nairobi County and then progressively spread to other counties across the country to provide employment opportunities in line with the Kenya Kwanza administration's Bottom-up Economic Transformation," President Ruto stated.
"After one month we shall include all the other remaining counties in the programme because we want to have about 200,000 youths dealing with the environmental issues."
Climate WorX Mtaani is a government climate action and livelihoods initiative that seeks to engage approximately 200,000 youth in environmental sustainability programmes.
The initiative will also include the engagement of the youth in planting trees even as the government seeks to accelerate the 15 Billion National Tree Growing Programme.
