2 Dead After Lorry Ferrying Logs of Wood Veers of Highway in Dundori, Nyandarua

Two people were on Friday morning killed after a lorry ferrying logs of wood got involved in an accident in the Dundori area of Nyandarua County.

According to witnesses, the lorry reportedly lost control before veering off the road, knocking pedestrians.

During the mid-morning incident, several people sustained injuries even as locals rushed to rescue those who had been trapped under the wreckage.

The footage obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, depicted locals surrounding the lorry while responders moved in to assist injured persons.

Similarly, the white lorry was captured  having overturned by the roadside with its windscreen completely shattered, signifying the severe nature of the accident.

Moments after, police officers arrived at the scene and cordoned the scene.

Meanwhile, the injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals while the deceased persons bodies were transported to the mortuary.

The Dundori incident comes just a day after one person passed away following an accident involving a lorry and a trailer along the Garissa-Thika highway.

A police report revealed the accident occurred after a truck rammed into a stationary trailer at the Kanyonyo Shopping Centre which is located between the border of Machakos and Kitui.

The latest accidents add to the grim road carnage statistics as the country continues to report road accidents casualties frequently.

In its recent report, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reported that 3,369 people died in road accidents between January 2024 and August 2024.

NTSA, stated that the number constituted; 1,281 pedestrians, 825 motorcyclists, 654 passengers, and 281 drivers.
