A huge inferno broke out in Mukuru Kwa Reuben in Nairobi County on Tuesday morning, razing property of unknown value.
Witness accounts have it that the fire broke out at around 5 am in the morning. Multiple video clips seen by Kenyans.co.ke depict thick smoke rising with tongues of flames razing a one-storey structure.
By the time of publishing this article, the cause of the fire had not yet been established. Fire engines had however been dispatched to the scene to put out the fire.
According to Mukuru Community Justice Centre, residents chipped in a bid to contain the inferno. So far, no casualties have been reported.
“There is a fire incident at the Transformer Area in Mukuru Kwa Ruben. Fire engines are on site and community volunteers trying their best to put off the fire,” Mukuru Community Justice Centre reported.
Mukuru Kwa Reuben is an informal settlement located approximately 7 kilometres south of the Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi City.
The relevant authorities are yet to release a statement on the morning inferno on the possible casualties and any other developments.
The fire adds to a list of fires that have ravaged through the nation in the last month.
The Mukuru Kwa Reuben morning fire comes barely a week after another fire razed 100 houses at the Mukuru Kwa Njenga Estate near the Muhindi Mweusi area in Nairobi.
In the aftermath of the fire, three children from the same family were burned leaving the family in a state of mourning and despair.
A few days earlier, four people had died after an inferno razed down a house in Mukuru Viwandani. Confirming the incident, Mukuru Community Justice Center noted that four people had lost their lives as a result of fires within a week.
Pressure is mounting from human rights groups to have fire emergency services installed in informal settlements where fires break out often.
