The Pharmacy and Poisons Board on Friday announced the immediate recall of Flamodip (Amlodipine) 5 Mg tablets batch no. FLD303 manufactured by Medico Remedies PVT Limited.

According to a statement issued by the board, this action is a result of a labelling error that failed to accurately reflect the drug's content.

“The secondary packaging is labelled as Flamodip-5 (Amlodipine), while the primary packaging is labelled as  Flamidopril-5 (Enalapril),” part of the alert reads.

Addressing pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals, the board advised that all sales and issuance of the drug cease immediately.

The Drug

The Flamodip(Amlodipine) is a blood pressure medication that works by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can move through more easily without the heart not having to work as hard.

Adverse reactions to overdosing on the medication could be physiological mostly affecting the blood and the the heart as well.

The hemodynamic effects may prove fatal as they may lead to pulmonary edema.

A pulmonary edema is a condition where the lungs fill up with blood preventing a patient from breathing properly and an eventual death. It is mostly caused by heart conditions.

The Board then continued to advise the public to report any suspected cases of substandard medication or adverse drug reactions to their healthcare providers or directly to the board through various channels.
