Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, September 28, directly addressed his issues with Kithure Kindiki as he played down any rivalries with the Interior Cabinet Secretary.

Gachagua, while engaging with residents of Meru Town, claimed that some individuals were intent on dividing the Mount Kenya vote by setting him against Kindiki.

While urging Meru residents to stick together, the Deputy President also appeared to hint that he would not take on Kindiki in the battle to become the Mt Kenya Kingpin.

"There are some youths who have been given handouts to split us into Mount Kenya East and Mount Kenya West; but if we divide, that will be the end," he stated.

He added, "We are not fools. Now they want to bring our son Professor Kindiki so we can rival him. We saw this happen during Moi's time."

The Deputy President cited several past political figures James Njiru, Kuria Kanyingi, GG Kariuki, Kariuki Chotara, and the late Joseph Kamotho, who all stemmed from Central Kenya but were affiliated with different political parties over the years.

With an impeachment motion set to be tabled against him in less than 48 hours, it seems Gachagua has gone on the defensive, and will almost certainly not go down without a fight.

His recent public addresses are of a man who has thrown caution to the wind, with his latest message to his boss President William Ruto signifying that he would also not relent.

While addressing a crowd in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, the Deputy President appeared to suggest Ruto should also be ousted since they were elected into office as a package.

He also sensationally claimed that his adversaries were willing to do whatever it took, including issuing bribes, to ensure he was impeached.

Meanwhile, Kindiki has been coy on talks of replacing Gachagua as the Mount Kenya kingpin, although he has shown that he is not afraid to take on the Deputy President's allies.

In a recent appearance before the National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal Security, the Interior CS claimed there was evidence that some political leaders financed the violence that was witnessed during the Gen-Z protests in June and July 2024, vowing to bring them to book.

"I am informed by DCI that high-level prosecutions will ensue anytime from now, including political leaders who financed protests; and we have evidence, they financed people to loot shops, to kill Kenyans, expose them to danger. We cannot continence the kind of mayhem we saw in July and June for whatever reason," Kindiki said.

Incidentally, instigating violence is top of the list among the nine-point allegations set to be tabled against Gachagua in the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 1.
