A National Police Reservist (NPR) sustained injuries over the weekend while three civilians died following cattle rustling attacks in Isiolo County, North Eastern part of Kenya.
The National Police Service on Sunday revealed that three other people sustained serious injuries after an unknown number of suspected bandits armed with assault rifles invaded the Bojidare area in Isiolo County.
The bandits invaded Manyattas while shooting and in the process, made away with over 250 heads of cows and 300 goats belonging to the locals.
Following the attack, the National Police Service (NPS) officers, including the Kenya Police, Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), and National Police Reserve (NPR) Officers, acted swiftly to track down the bandits and recover all 300 goats plus 30 cows.
The injured were rushed to Isiolo District Hospital for specialised treatment while the deceased were handed over to their families for burial as per Muslim rites.
In a separate incident in the Hola Bule area, an unknown number of bandits armed with assault rifles raided a home and opened fire before stealing 19 herds of cattle.
NPS and NPR officers at the scene established that one man had been fatally shot while two other persons including an NPR officer sustained gunshot wounds.
However, all the 19 animals were recovered. The body of the victim was transferred to Isiolo County Hospital Morgue for preservation.
The individuals who sustained injuries were taken to the nearby hospital for specialised treatment.
In the third cattle rustling attack, two bandits were fatally shot across the River Waso area under Samburu East. The operation led by NPS officers was successful as a total of 211 stolen heads of cattle were recovered.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli and the Eastern Regional Security team arrived in Isiolo on Sunday morning to assess the security situation and coordinate the operations in the area until peace and order is restored.
Reinforcement teams from Isiolo Police Station, ASTU, and NPR have been dispatched and investigations launched by DCI to bring perpetrators to book.
