Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, on Tuesday, shared a passionate plea to the members of the public to help the county raise funds for a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) who is facing a serious health complication.

The MCA, Mark G Wainaina, who is allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, was diagnosed with a severe pulmonary disease that has caused his lungs to fail, prompting the family to seek additional support.

The county assembly is therefore scheduled to host a fundraising event to shore up financial support to aid in the diseased MCA's treatment.

''The Murang'a County Assembly Members Caucus invites you to a fundraising dinner in aid of one of our Members, Hon. Mark G. Wainaina who has been diagnosed with a severe pulmonary disease that has caused both of his lungs to fail,’’ Kang'ata shared.

According to the MCA's brother who spoke to Kenyans.co.kethe lawmaker’s condition recently deteriorated, prompting the family to seek well-wishers' support.

Information from the organisers of the event revealed that the medical contributions would be followed by a bigger fundraiser at Sagret Hotel located in Milimani, Nairobi, on Friday, November 15.

Sharleen Wambui, a fellow MCA, called upon Kenyans to help the family of Wainaina to raise funds for his treatment.

''Family and friends, we invite you to help us raise some funds for our brother Mark Wainaina who is currently been treated for severe Pneumonia which has caused all his vital organs to stop functioning and is currently in the ICU," she shared.

Wainana is a close ally of the Murang’a Governor, who has been notably present in his social media posts since his nomination to represent Wangu Ward in the assembly.

In February 2023, Kang’ata attended a thanksgiving ceremony for the MCA held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church of Kenya in Kirogo.

‘’Members of Muranga county Assembly among other leaders joined Mark Wainaina, nominated MCA Wangu ward during his thanksgiving service which was held in ACK St. Peter's church, Kirogo,’’ Murang’a County Assembly shared in a statement.

‘’Mark is an astute and selfless leader whose leadership style is an inspiration to many upcoming new crop of young leaders. Governor Irungu Kangata graced the event,’’ the statement added.

The fundraiser event comes at a time when the UDA government has been urging Kenyans to register for the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) to cater to such medical emergencies.
