Rumours of a more looming purge within the government seem to have gained momentum after the Public Service Commission (PSC) published an advertisement calling for Kenyans to apply for the vacant positions of Principal Secretaries.
PSC, in the advertisement published in local dailies and on its website on Wednesday, urged Kenyans interested in the position and with the necessary qualifications to apply for the PS positions.
Applicants have until December 4, 2024, to apply for the positions.
According to the Commission, a candidate must have a degree from a university recognised by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
The commission also outlined that a candidate must have at least 10 years of experience, 5 of which must have been in a senior position of management either within the private or public service.
The candidates must further possess relevant knowledge and understanding of government organization, function, and policies and should be able to demonstrate how they would transfer the same to their respective positions within the government.
"Demonstrate an understanding of the goals, policies, and developmental objectives of the nation. Have demonstrable leadership and management capacity including knowledge of financial management and strategic people management," PSC announced.
Some of the roles that the PSs will be entrusted with include being the principal accountant and authorizing officer in the respective Ministry that they will be posted to. This will include strict adherence to the values enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
"Ensuring efficient and effective utilization of Financial, Human, and other Resources in the State Department and submitting regular statutory reports as required. Promoting the values and principles spelled out in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution of Kenya." PSC stated.
PSC chairperson Anthony Muchiri stated that applicants should submit all their relevant certifications and curriculum vitae as well as clearances from key government agencies.
"Each application should be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of relevant academic and professional certificates and transcripts, National Identity Card or Passport, testimonials, and other relevant supporting documents. Scanned copies of these documents must accompany an online application," the commission added.
Recently, President William Ruto made changes to the Cabinet which saw some CSs dropped from the government as members of the opposition took up their positions in an announcement made on July 24 at State House, Nairobi.
Additionally, from the look of things, there could be more developments regarding reshuffles within the government, especially in the Legislative and Executive arms.
The changes are likely to hit hard on leaders perceived to be allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who was impeached in October.
