Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Machakos are among the regions expected to receive weekend rainfall, according to the latest weather forecast.
In the daily forecast for the next five days, the Kenya Meteorological Department announced chances of showers in a few places in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Lake Victoria Basin.
According to the forecast for the period from Saturday, February 8, to Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, are to expect rainfall on Saturday afternoon and night.
The forecast predicts further that there will be rainfall on Sunday afternoon, with the morning expected to be sunny and the night partly cloudy. As for next week, Monday to Wednesday will be sunny in the morning and afternoon and partly cloudy at night.
Temperatures in these regions are forecasted to hit highs of 28°C over the weekend, with minimum temperatures reaching up to 11°C over the two days. The other three days will see highs of 27°C and lows of 10°C.
For the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and the broader Rift Valley region—which encompasses counties such as Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Busia—they may experience showers in the afternoon and night on Saturday and Sunday.
According to the forecast, there will be rain on Monday morning over a few places and night as well. Tuesday morning is also predicted to be wet, while the rest of the day is expected to be sunny and partly cloudy. There is no rain predicted for Wednesday.
Temperatures will reach highs of 33°C and lows of 10°C in this region.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, are expected to remain mostly dry during the day, with occasional cloudiness at night. However, Kwale is expected to receive showers on Sunday afternoon.
Daytime temperatures in these regions are forecasted to exceed 33°C, while nighttime temperatures may reach up to 21°C.
In the southeastern lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, the forecast indicates rainy conditions on Saturday and Sunday.
According to the forecast, showers are predicted for the afternoons and nights in areas around the Kilimanjaro and Tanzania border.
The showers are expected in the afternoons, with morning and night forecast to be partly cloudy. Temperatures in these areas are expected to reach highs of 32°C, with lows around 12°C over the five days.
The counties in the northeast of the country—Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo—can expect sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon, with the night expected to be partly cloudy. Temperatures in this region will reach highs of 38°C and lows of 17°C.
The Director General of the Kenya Meteorological Department, Dr. David Gikungu, has cautioned residents in the northwestern and northeastern parts of the country to remain vigilant due to anticipated strong southeasterly winds reaching 25 knots (12.5 m/s) or more in parts of Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.
