Detectives at the Director of Criminal Investigations have arrested another suspect linked to the murder of Taxi Driver Victoria Mumbua Muloki.
Muloki attracted public interest after she went missing for more than three weeks and was later discovered dead at the City Mortuary on October 3, 2024.
Following her death, the DCI launched investigations and arrested Edwin Ng'etich, her last customer, who had requested a ride from Mombasa to Samburu.
Ng'etich was arrested in possession of the vehicle belonging to the deceased taxi driver.
In a chilling confession, Ng'etich told the police that he requested the ride on September 27, and midway through the journey, he attacked her, assaulted her multiple times, and tied her to the back seat of the car.
Fast forward to Friday, February 21, DCI announced that it has arrested yet another suspect believed to be Ng'etich's accomplice.
"The suspect was also arrested following ongoing investigations into the murder of Victoria Mumbua Muloki, which took place on September 27, 2024. She was a taxi driver based in Mombasa," the statement read in part.
The suspect was also linked to the murder of yet another male taxi driver based in Migori who died on July 31, 2024, under unclear circumstances.
Further, the DCI detectives have revealed that efforts to trace and apprehend additional suspects connected to these murders are actively ongoing.
According to an autopsy done by the government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor, Muloki suffered significant trauma before her untimely death.
The postmortem indicated that the victim was repeatedly struck with a blunt object several times before being strangled, illustrating the violent nature of the attack.
In a separate incident, the DCI has arrested a 39-year-old woman in connection with the murder of a man which occurred in Nairobi on May 11, 2022. Initially, the case was reported at Kasarani Police Station as a mob injustice incident.
However, following a complaint letter received on November 19, 2023, the DCI initiated fresh investigations leading to her arrest.
