President William Ruto’s government officials on Saturday, February 22, attacked the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Nyeri, Bishop Anthony Muheria, after calling out Ruto for focusing on publicity rather than implementing the projects.

Energy Cabinet Secretary, Opiyo Wandayi, in a speech, asked Muheria to stick to his lane and to leave the government to carry on with publicity.

Wandayi stated that the government must talk about the development plans and its objectives.

“We have a duty to communicate our development plans, and that is what we are planning to do. We also have to communicate what we are doing and what we have done.

"That is what we shall continue to do without fear or contradiction," Opiyo stated.

Kipkeleon East MP Joseph Cherorot asked Muheria to focus on the region and should not concentrate on politics.

Energy PS, Alex Wachira, said that the government is not advertising; instead, it is listening to the people and delivering it.

Baringo Women Representative Florence Jematia, in her speech, told the Muheria that he was out of order.

“All governments of the world always tell the people what they do, and it is their duty to do that. In fact, according to the constitution, we are doing something called public participation,” Jematia stated.

On Friday, February 21, Muheria criticised Ruto’s government and asked Ruto to reduce the public advertisement of the projects his government intends to work on and instead focus on developments.

“There has to be less rhetoric. We have to stop advertising and act. The government seems to be constrained to an advertisement of government, advertisement of government projects, advertisements of plans,”

“The government is not an advertising agency. It is an agency that implements actions. That’s what we want to see," Bishop Muheria stated.
