16 Injured in Head-On Collision Between Matatu & Private Car on Nairobi-Nakuru Highway at Kinungi

16 people were injured in a tragic road accident along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi Highway at Kinungi Soweto on Saturday, March 8, in the afternoon.

In a statement after the accident, the St John Ambulance Kenya reported that 16 people were injured when a personal car had a head-on collision with a matatu.

The injured were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital for specialized care.

"Head-on collision at Kinungi Soweto involving a personal car and a matatu leaves 16 casualties," the statement reads.

Images and videos seen by this publication show that the small saloon car swerved towards the oncoming traffic, hitting the matatu that was headed towards Nairobi. 

"St. John Ambulance Kenya said that the volunteers responded swiftly, providing lifesaving first aid before rushing to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital," the statement reads.

The saloon car had its front end caved in after the accident, with the matatu also sustaining damage on the front right-hand side. Most of the damage was on the driver's side bumper and door.

This accident comes days after an accident occurred along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, claiming two lives at Nyakairu on Saturday, March 1.

These accidents on Saturday night, involving a lorry and two personal cars, caused injuries to twelve more people. The injured were rushed to Naivasha General Hospital.

"Two people lost their lives, and twelve others were injured in a road crash at Nyakairu along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway. The accident involved a lorry and two personal cars," part of the statement read.
