Estates within Embakasi East should prepare for above-average rainfall, according to the latest advisory from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The weatherman issued a forecast on Monday afternoon, detailing several constituencies within the capital that will experience varying levels of rainfall.
If the alert is accurate, nearly all areas in the city will receive rainfall between Monday, March 9, and Tuesday, March 10, with some constituencies expected to endure heavier downpours than others.
Besides Embakasi East, which is set to receive between 80mm and 100mm of rainfall, moderate rainfall (estimated between 40mm and 60mm) has been forecast in areas including Dagoretti, Roysambu, Kamukunji, and Embakasi North.
Areas within Kasarani constituency and Ruaraka are forecast to receive lighter showers below 20mm.
Similarly, Starehe constituency, including Pangani, Ngara, Ziwani, Shauri Moyo, Kariokor, and the Nairobi CBD, will experience moderate rainfall between 25mm and 30mm.
In Kamukunji, estates such as Eastleigh, Pumwani, parts of Gikomba, and Muthurwa will experience fairly light showers, although the weatherman expects rainfall to exceed 35mm. Makadara constituency will also experience light showers between Monday and Tuesday.
Areas around Westlands are projected to receive above-average rainfall, falling within the 50mm-60mm range.
Despite variations in rainfall intensity across different parts of the city, a large section of Nairobi remains prone to waterlogging and flooding.
Since the onset of rains in the city, The National Transport and Safety Authority has since weighed in, issuing a set of crucial tips to minimize accidents within the city.
While noting that the rainy period elevated the risk of car accidents, NTSA urged motorists to ensure they are alert at all times, since rains tend to affect visibility on the roads.
Drivers were also warned against attempting to cross running water as they could easily misconstrue the depth of the ponds, leading to drowning accidents.
