Senior government officials reportedly snubbed an event graced by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to open a modern Assistant County Commissioner's office in Mjini, Kiharu Constituency on orders from above.
A source close to the event, which took place on Wednesday, March 19, confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that senior government officials, including the County Commissioner, Assistant County Commissioners, and Chiefs, were notably absent.
According to reports, local administrators and police officers were instructed not to attend the event leaving the MP, who was the former chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in the National Assembly, deserted.
Nyoro downplayed the absenteeism and continued with the event as planned. He unveiled the modern facility, which was constructed using funds from the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF). The Township ACC's Office hosts the Chief's Office, Assistant Chief's Office, Civil Registration, and Land's Board among others.
The office also provides a Hall to be installed and equipped with Computers for Community use.
The absence of senior government officials, including the County Commissioner, Assistant County Commissioners, and chiefs, drew attention to the political state surrounding the member of parliament.
It is alleged that the boycott may have been due to political tensions or directives from higher authorities, although no official explanation has been provided.
Nyoro remained unshaken by the boycott and highlighted the importance of the new office in improving service delivery to the people of Kiharu.
Speaking during the event, Nyoro revealed that he would continue respecting those in authority, he however warned that him showing respect does not mean that he is a coward or fearful.
The event saw attendance from local residents and his supporters, creating a contrasting dynamic to the noticeable absence of government officials.
The developments came barely a day when the Kiharu MP held a presser speaking publicly for the first time since he was removed from the powerful Budget Committee.
In the presser, the MP made major revelations including speaking about his removal. The MP clarified that he does not know why he was removed from the Committee role.
Nyoro alleged that he has yet to receive any formal communication about his removal despite being off the position for over a week now.
“I do not know why I was replaced, I am saying it in good faith, I came to set the record straight. No one in the leadership of our coalition has ever called me in regards to the position,” Nyoro revealed.
Nyoro, however, revealed that despite the perception by the public, he had no bad blood with any leaders including President Ruto whom he revealed he has not talked to since October 2024.
Neither Nyoro nor the county leadership has made any clarification on the boycotting of his event.
