Six Kenyans have been killed by suspected Al Shabaab militants in an attack at a National Police Reservists Camp in Fafi, Garissa County.

According to a report by the Standard, four more people were injured in the attack that took place at the crack of dawn on Sunday, March 23.

A report by the Hagadera Police states, "At around 0530 Hrs suspected Al-Shabab militia attacked a National Police Reservist Camp, and those injured were rushed to hospital."

"In response, a multi-agency security team, led by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), has launched an investigation into the incident."

Reportedly, the militants stormed the camp armed to the teeth with assorted weapons and quickly took it over on Sunday morning.

The region has recently been rife with Al Shabaab attacks that frequent the border counties for such attacks.

Just a few days ago, the United States Embassy in Kenya issued a security alert to its citizens against travelling to those regions.

In the March 18 travel advisory, the Embassy highlighted Kenya-Somalia border counties, including Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera, naming them as high-risk regions and warned against visiting them.

"Kenya-Somalia border counties (Garissa, Wajir, Mandera), Tana River County, and coastal areas north of Malindi due to terrorism and kidnapping," part of the statement read.

The embassy also warned of banditry attacks near the Ethiopian border, stating, "Parts of Marsabit and Turkana Counties within 30 miles (50 kilometres) of the Ethiopian border due to cross-border incursions."

In early February, five Kenyan chiefs were abducted by suspected Al Shabaab terrorists in the neighbouring Mandera County and their whereabouts are yet to be determined.

The five administrators were travelling from Wargadud to Elwak Town for official duty when they were captured.
