The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced the eligibility criteria and minimum requirements for students seeking placement in various tertiary institutions.
According to KUCCPS, an applicant seeking placement in either a public or private university must be a Kenyan citizen. Currently, non-citizens are not eligible for university placements in Kenya.
However, non-Kenyans are eligible for placement in the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education programs, and Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) programs.
Additionally, an applicant must have sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, which is administered annually by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Minimum Requirements
A candidate seeking placement through KUCCPS must meet the minimum requirements to apply for degree, diploma, certificate, and artisan courses.
According to KUCCPS, an applicant looking to pursue a degree course must obtain a minimum grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE, while a diploma student must have at least a C- (minus). A certificate student is required to have a minimum grade of D+ (plus) in KCSE.
The placement service further clarifies that only candidates who apply through KUCCPS will be considered for placement in the respective programs they select.
For an applicant to be considered for a specific course, they must meet the minimum admission requirements as published on the KUCCPS Students’ Portal.
“Placement is done on merit and an approved Affirmative Action Criteria (Gender, Persons with Disabilities and Marginalised Regions) is applied to enhance access to higher education,” KUCCPS noted.
Nonetheless, securing a preferred course is a competitive process determined by the qualifications of all the applicants and the number of available vacancies in the programme.
How to Apply
KUCCPS advertises placement applications and provides information through print and electronic media.
An applicant is required to log in to the KUCCPS Student Portal: students.kuccps.net
Once an applicant accesses the portal, they will be prompted to enter their KCSE index number, the year of examination, and their password.
Students are advised to use their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number as their password.
Meanwhile, the latest update comes hardly a week after KUCCPS announced that it would be opening its portal for university course applications this week.
