The Ukambani region is set for massive development across several sectors after President William Ruto allocated Ksh5.2 billion to revive stalled projects in the region.

Mwengi Mutuse, the Kibwezi West Member of Parliament, made this announcement after accompanying several other regional leaders, including Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, to a meeting with President Ruto.

According to the statement by Mutuse, these funds will revive projects in water, housing, markets and higher education sectors.

"This morning, Ukambani leaders engaged in a fruitful discussion with H.E. President William Ruto at State House. Key projects in roads, electrification, water, housing & education to kick off across Makueni, Machakos & Kitui," part of the statement read.

"Over Ksh 5.2 billion allocated to revive stalled road projects. Implementation of key developments in water, housing, markets, and higher education starts immediately across the region. Thank you, President Ruto, for your commitment."

He further noted that this move aligns with the government's mission to foster unity and accelerate projects that matter to the people of Ukambani.

He concluded by emphasizing that construction would commence immediately, benefiting the counties of Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni.

"Leadership that delivers! Key projects in Ukambani to commence immediately after a successful meeting with President Ruto. Roads, housing, markets, and education are now top priorities! Thank you, Mr. President, for prioritizing all Kenyans!" he stated.

Also present at the meeting were National Security Adviser Monica Juma and several Principal Secretaries.

This meeting comes weeks after the leaders met early this month to detail seven demands to President Ruto in anticipation of the meeting.

In the March 1 meeting, they outlined seven areas of concern, including road Infrastructure, education standards, water resources, electricity provision, employment opportunities, business support, and professional appointments to key positions in the Kenya Kwanza government.

They also discussed five more issues to implement in the region, including the accessibility of leadership empowerment opportunities for residents and a discussion on developmental priorities.

The meeting prioritised projects in three predominantly Ukambani counties—Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni— and counties with a significant Kamba presence, like Nairobi, Kilifi, Mombasa, Taveta, Embu, and Kwale.
