Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has assured that the government will equip Eastleigh Police Stations with enough police vehicles so as to reinforce the security in the area.
Acknowledging Eastleigh's image as a vital business hub in the country, the IG said that the government has built more police stations and is in the race to ensure that the security personnel in the area receive enough vehicles for patrols to beef up security.
"Eastleigh is a very important area in the country because there are very many big businesses, and we have people from very different places, so it is a cosmopolitan area," he said.
"I know there are few stations that have no cars, but I want to assure you that the government is now in the process of buying enough cars for the police force, and we will ensure that your stations receive them," he said.
The IG, who spoke in Eastleigh on Sunday, March 30, further lauded the residents of the area for their close collaboration with security agencies to ensure that the security of the area is fit.
"We want to thank the residents of this area because they have been working with the police and have been giving us good intel to ensure that the security agencies maintain security in this area," he stated.
Kanja has further assured that security agencies across the country are on high alert to ensure that citizens celebrate Eid Mubarak without any interference or fear.
"I want to assure all the Muslims and Kenyans who are celebrating Eid Mubarak that the security is good," he added.
This year, Ramadan kicked off on the evening of Friday, February 28, and lasted for exactly one month, until the evening of Saturday, March 29.
During this period, Muslims globally fasted, prayed, and reflected on their religious responsibilities to themselves and the community at large.
In a special Gazette notice dated Friday, March 28, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen declared Monday, March 31, 2025, a national holiday to celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr, to mark the end of Ramadan.
Following the announcement, government offices, schools, and other institutions, such as banks, are expected to be closed to mark the religious festivity.
"It is notified for the general information of the public that, in the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Monday, March 31, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr," the notice stated.
