President William Ruto has told Kenyans that he will concede defeat if he loses the forthcoming general elections scheduled for August 2027.

Speaking in Othaya, Nyeri County, on Saturday, April 5, the Head of State told the residents that he was ready to go home and farm if he failed to meet their expectations.

Ruto, who spoke during the inspection of several government programmes in the Mt Kenya region, including the affordable housing projects, exuded confidence in winning the polls, stating that he was ready to face his competitors.

He, however, called on the government critics to allow him to deliver his promises to Kenyans, maintaining that the campaign period for the 2027 polls was yet to commence.

“Let everybody do their work so that in 2027, you can decide. Whoever passed the test would be taken, and whoever failed would go home. There is no need for politicking right now. I have completed every job that I have done,” Ruto said.

“I know you will give me the exam when the time comes, mark it, if I pass i will continue woirking, if i fail i will go home and continue with farming,” he added.

Ruto, while criticising the opposition, said Kenyans would vote him back based on his development track record and that of other leaders within the government.

The President was in the company of other senior government officials, including a section of cabinet members, during which he announced several benefits for the people of Nyeri, including construction of markets, electricity connection and roads.

His bold declaration follows a backlash from a section of opposition leaders led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who recently accused him of consistently lying to Kenyans.

Addressing the residents of Kiserian in Kajiado County on Thursday, March 27, Gachagua accused the Head of State of consistently lying and making false promises, adding that the president also deceived him into supporting and voting for the current administration.

Gachagua, who has been a great critic of the Head of State since his impeachment by Senators in October last year, also promised to rally the support of all Kenyans to dismiss Ruto.

“I urge you to forgive me. The guy also deceived me; he came as a Christian, with a Bible, only for me to realise he was a wolf clothed as a sheep. He deceived us, and now the country is full of lies. He lied that he would give us money, yet he came back and took the little we had from us,” Gachagua said.
