Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has threatened to sue Dela Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ahmed after he claimed that he was behind his abduction.
During an interview with Citizen TV on Saturday, the governor stated that Ahmed's remarks were defaming and could affect his political ambitions.
According to the governor, the declaration by the MCA was a way for him to drag his name in the mud in the eyes of the national audience since he had attained his seat as the chair of the council of the government.
"The people of Wajir know what is going on. That statement was just made to malign me with the people of Nairobi, especially now that I am the Chair of the Council of Governors and the people who did not know me are getting to know me by virtue of that position," he stated.
He added that he would be taking action and recording a statement with the police and calling for the investigations into who sent the MCA to make those degrading remarks.
"Until Yusuf provides proof of the allegations he made or pays for what he said in a court of law, in accordance with the law. Because I know it's not him. The person who is ending him cannot say those things about me. He is just being used as a pawn in a bigger political game," he stated.
In a preceding press conference, the MCA, who was freed on March 8 after six months in captivity, claimed that his abduction had been orchestrated by the county governor.
According to the MCA, this was due to his firm stance against the Wajir County 2024 budget, which was passed while he was in captivity.
"I arrived in Nairobi on September 12, waiting for our meeting with the governor. On Friday, September 13, 2024, at 9 pm, when riding to Nairobi from South C estate in a taxi, along Enterprise Road, I was forcefully abducted by unknown masked gunmen," Ahmed claimed.
"My experience and interactions with my abductors all had the fingerprints of the influence of Wajir Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Abdullahi."
Ahmed's abduction, which occurred at the height of abductions in the country, left many suspecting his abduction was politically motivated, as the rest were.
To date, no clear information has been unveiled on why and who took him into captivity for six months.
