The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reported the arrest of two Kenyans who carried out a heist at a warehouse in Embakasi over the Easter holiday, making away with Ksh17.6 million worth of electronics.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 23, DCI revealed that the robbery took place on Easter Sunday, April 20, at Atlantic Business Park, where two go-downs were broken and several gadgets, including televisions and CCTV servers, were looted.

The matter was reported at the Mombasa Road Police Station when the employees returned to work and discovered the theft.

Among the stolen items were 363 pieces of 43-inch Hisense TVs, 20 pieces of 20-inch HB TVs, 11 sets of HS 218 soundbars, four HP laptops, two mobile phones, desktop computers, school bags, spare parts, and CCTV servers.

The police immediately launched investigations into the matter, uncovering that the facility had been broken into by a group of individuals armed with crude weapons.

They had reportedly gained entry by cutting through the iron sheet roof and accessing the accounts office and storeroom.

Investigators also revealed that security personnel at the facility during the robbery had failed to alert authorities, who had responded to an alarm that was triggered.

This prompted the investigating officers to suspect that the heist was an inside job, as the security officers had gone into hiding following the robbery.

A subsequent forensic analysis led the detectives to two suspects, who were later apprehended at a resort in Ruai.

Upon their arrest, several of the stolen items, including 269 Hisense 43-inch TVs, 65 Hisense 55-inch A6 TVs, 2 Hisense 65-inch Q6 TVs, 8 Hisense 58-inch A6 TVs, 7 Hisense 32-inch A4 TVs, 4 Hisense 40-inch TVs, 4 Hisense 50-inch TVs, an Aiwa SB 8320 speaker, Aiwa SB 2031 speaker, and 11 sets of HS 218 soundbars, among other items, were recovered.

The items had been loaded into a white Mitsubishi FH motor vehicle, which was confiscated alongside the items to serve as exhibits in the case.

The two suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing processing pending arraignment.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the missing security officers and other individuals linked to this daring theft.
