Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap has asked President William Ruto to fire Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, saying he is an incompetent leader who has failed to protect the people.

Makilap blamed Murkomen for causing problems and being disrespectful to the country. He added that instead of solving security issues in the country, Murkomen is focusing on social media and inciting people.

"My people in Baringo North have never wronged anyone. The one causing us problems and disrespecting us now is this incompetent minister of yours. President, we ask you to fire him. He is the problem in your government. Instead of solving the issue of security, you (Murkomen) are busy on social media and inciting people," said Makilap.

"Us, the Arror residents, we have rejected this guy called Murkomen. He is the problem in the Kenya Kwanza administration. The rest of us worked hard to get this government," he added.

He spoke after Murkomen scolded the people of Baringo North during a peace meeting at Kampi Samaki on Friday, accusing them of engaging in outdated banditry.

The remarks angered many, and Makilap called them reckless, insulting, and disconnected from the suffering of innocent people who live in constant fear.

Makilap criticised Murkomen for calling Arror residents bandits, saying such statements were careless and showed a lack of leadership.

He defended the people of Arror, saying they are peace-loving and deserve respect, not to be treated like criminals.

“Instead of deploying serious interventions to restore security, the Interior CS is busy mocking communities and shifting blame. You, Mr. Murkomen, are an embarrassment and a shame to the government we voted for,” said Makilap.

He also said Murkomen had failed in his duty to protect lives and property. Makilap warned that blaming victims only increases stigma and destroys trust between the government and communities.

He called on the government to act quickly by disarming criminal gangs, increasing security in dangerous areas, and avoiding politics in matters of insecurity. He warned that continued neglect would erode public trust.

“We want action, not careless statements from high-ranking officials who should know better,” he added.

This clash between Rift Valley leaders and national government officials comes at a time when insecurity in Baringo County is once again on the rise.
