The driver and bodyguard of late Kasipul MP Charles Were are among three more individuals who have been arrested in connection with the legislator's murder.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) also recovered two pistols believed to have been used in the murder of the MP in Nairobi last week, when he was fatally shot by a gunman who had been trailing him.
The weapons and other items recovered were reportedly found inside a house in Chokaa, Embakasi East, Nairobi County.
Also recovered were a bag and a pair of shoes believed to have been used by the prime suspect during the commission of the crime.
Detectives said the recovered pistols would undergo ballistic analysis to determine ownership.
This latest development comes barely three days after DCI officers arrested four other suspects linked to the killing of MP Were, who was shot dead along Ngong Road near the City Mortuary roundabout.
According to a press statement released on Sunday, May 4, the arrests followed the analysis of key leads that placed the suspects at the crime scene.
Some of the suspects arrested were alleged to be members of the Mjahidin gang, a criminal group linked to a string of violent robberies within Nairobi's Eastlands area.
While announcing the arrest of the four suspects, the DCI officers revealed that they were in pursuit of more suspects and called on Kenyans with information that could assist the investigation to contact the nearest police station.
"Investigators are actively pursuing additional suspects believed to be involved in this heinous act. Specialised units, including homicide and forensic teams, are working diligently to uncover all aspects of the crime, including the motive, to ensure a comprehensive investigation," the detectives said.
Following their arrest, the four suspects were on Monday arraigned at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) court, but no formal charges were read against them.
Magistrate Irene Gichobi while issuing directives over the case, ordered the suspects to be detained for the next 30 days to pave the way for further investigations.
MP Were was shot dead on April 30 by an unknown individual who was on a motorbike. According to a police report, the pillion passenger approached the lawmaker's vehicle and fired shots at the MP before jumping back onto the motorcycle and speeding away.
