According to the governor, a team from the Kenya Navy and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) responded swiftly to contain the inferno.

"Three county fire engines were on site and effectively supported by our national partners to preserve life and property," he added.

Despite the fire, according to the governor, services will continue normally since vital data, which he says was backed up on a cloud-based system, is still safe.

Authorities have, however, not established the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.

"We are grateful that there were no casualties. The County Government reassures residents that service continuity is assured," he stated.

"All critical data is securely backed up on cloud-based systems, and this unfortunate incident will not disrupt the delivery of services," he added.

On the other hand, the Kenya Red Cross assured that it will remain on site to coordinate with relevant authorities and support the affected individuals.

"The fire was contained by a multi-agency team comprising the County and KPA fire brigades, Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Police. No casualties reported. Damage assessment underway," it stated.

The incident happened hours after a recently constructed dormitory of Igikiro Boys High School in Makuyu, Murang'a County, was burned in a suspected arson attack, destroying property of unknown value.

Fortunately, according to reports, no casualties were reported, as no students were inside the building at the time of the incident, and emergency services responded on time to contain the fire.

According to authorities, three students and a boda boda rider from Igikiro Shopping Centre, suspected of involvement in the incident, were detained.
