At least five new political parties are seeking registration ahead of the next elections, according to Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu.
The parties include United Patriotic Movement (UPM), according to Nderitu, in a gazette notice dated Friday, May 9. UPM's founding members, the notice shows, are Chrispinus Aleri, Sarah Lozi Jabiri, Jackson Ndege Ongige, Monicah Muchite Shilisia, Fai Tunda, and Hezron Ligwilu Maina.
The party's corporate colours will be orange, black, and white. The outfit has "Stability and Prosperity" as its slogan.
The other one is Party for Democratic Reforms (PDR), whose slogan is "Tumaini Na Ushindi". The party was founded by Robert Onsumo, Hodovia Njoroge, and Lynet Makaka. It has emerald green, ruby red, and pearl white as its colours.
The Alliance for Democratic Association (ADA), which has listed Steve Nzivo Kilonzo, Margaret Nyawina Waka, Linet Njeri Mbuthi, and Benard Kipruto Segecha as its founders, is also on the list. The party, whose corporate colours will be orange, olive and turquoise blue, has "Alliance Power" as its slogan.
Others parties seeking registratiuon are Inclusive Party (TIP) and Conservation of Democracy in Kenya (COD-K). TIP black, green, and red as the party colours. "The Dawn of Inclusivity" will be its slogan. TIP was founded by Sally Jemutai Komen, Grace Karen Akinyi, and Kioko Judah Kiio.
On the other hand, COD-K which will have "Kioo cha Jamii" as its slogan, will use brown, white, and red, as party colours. It was founded by Fredrick Asira, Edward Waswa, Basil Jabuto, Julia Ngeiywa, Betty Nyakara, and Diana Wambui.
Ms Nderitu said any person who may be against registration of the outfits should provide a written objection to her office within seven days from the day of publication.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (2) (a) of the Political Parties Act, (Cap. 7D), the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that the following political parties have applied for provisional registration under section 6 of the Act," she said.
She added: "Any person with written submissions concerning the registration of the above political parties shall, within seven (7) days from the date of this publication, deposit them with the Registrar of Political Parties."
The announcement comes hours after the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Sunday, May 12, revealed he will unveil a new political party this week, seven months after he left office.
According to the former DP, the party's launch will be preceded by a massive celebration to mark his long-awaited fresh chapter in the political ecosystem.
“This coming week, I will launch my party, and there will be a huge party afterwards, and I hope you will all attend," he said.
