Murang’a County's Kanyenyaini Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Grace Nduta, has reportedly been apprehended in connection with the alleged disappearance of Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi.
Nduta was apprehended by detectives and taken to a police post in Gatanga, with authorities considering her a person of interest in the saga involving the Koimburi's disappearance.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed her arrest in a statement on Thursday evening, saying the MCA was part of an ongoing investigation connected to Koimburi's alleged abduction.
"We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu was arrested today as part of an ongoing investigation of the stage-managed abduction of Hon. George Koimburi," DCI said in a statement on Thursday evening.
News of Nduta's alleged apprehension came to light on the afternoon of Thursday, May 29, after Muranga County Governor Irungu Kang'ata took to X, formerly Twitter, to claim that unknown persons had taken the MCA.
According to Kang'ata, unconfirmed reports suggested the MCA was being held in Samuru Police Post, Gatanga.
"Detectives have apprehended Kanyenyaini Ward MCA in Murang'a County, Grace Nduta, in connection with the alleged capture of Juja MP George Koimburi," he shared on X.
Kenyans.co.ke has since established that authorities strongly believe the MCA was in the company of Koimburi at the time when news of the Juja MP's disappearance was rife on the internet.
The DCI, through their statement, also claimed that contrary to initial claims that MCA Nduta was at a church service on May 25 during Koimburi's abduction episode, the Kanyenyaini Ward MCA was allegedly at a bar and restaurant in Gatundu South in the company of Koimburi.
Further reports indicate that in the build-up to the MCA's capture, she received a call from an unknown individual who claimed he wanted to meet to discuss official business. Upon arrival, the MCA was taken into custody.
The MCA's driver confirmed the incident, saying he dropped the MCA at a hotel before sensing something was off seconds after leaving the MCA with the unnamed individual.
"I dropped her and left. After leaving her, I spotted a car with windows rolled down, and I called my boss to confirm whether everything was alright. I was informed that she had been taken by three individuals," the driver revealed.
Allies close to the MCA believe her current woes are connected to her ties with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, as Nduta was among the have openly endorsed the former Deputy President.
Already, there is growing clamour to get to the bottom of the alleged kidnapping of Koimburi last Sunday. On Monday, the MP was found on a coffee farm in Kiambu County, but the government claims there was no kidnapping.
Members of Parliament have called for full investigations and prosecution of all involved in the scheme.
