Police on Sunday apprehended four notorious criminals who had been tormenting residents of Nairobi's Kibera estate and its surrounding areas.

The suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the Kibera Police Station.

According to police reports, the gang were flushed out of their hideout in the Line Saba area following a well-coordinated operation.

A swift search at the scene led to the recovery of a homemade firearm, three rounds of 9mm ammunition, six smartphones, two laptops, and a camera lens.

The suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment. The recovered items have been secured as exhibits to aid in the ongoing investigations.

The latest operation comes amid a growing trend of lawlessness in Nairobi, where police have ramped up crackdowns amid concerns that some criminals may be exploiting law enforcement systems to further their activities.

On February 19, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched a probe into a robbery with violence incident in which two police officers were named as the main suspects.

The incident occurred in Nairobi’s Githurai estate, where the officers were reportedly caught in the act as they pinned down a civilian with the help of a third accomplice.

According to a police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, officers from Githurai Police Station, who were on routine patrol, stumbled upon the scene near the Githurai-Soweto Railway Line.

They immediately intervened and arrested the suspects—two police officers and their civilian accomplice.

Meanwhile, the four suspects arrested in Kibera are being held in police custody as investigations continue.

They are expected to be arraigned on Tuesday when court sessions resume after the long weekend holiday.
