The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned Kenyans living in different parts of the country to brace for moderate to heavy rains starting Tuesday this week to Monday next week.
Kenya Met in its weekly advisory published on Tuesday, October 21, said that heavy rains were expected in the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, the South-eastern Lowlands and the Rift Valley region.
In the Central Highlands, rains would occur in the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.
Similarly, in the Lake Victoria basin and Rift Valley region, rains were projected in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Nandi counties.
Other counties that were also predicted to experience a similar weather pattern are Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
In the South-eastern Lowland counties, moderate to heavy rains were expected in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
Kenyans living in the aforementioned areas were thus urged to be cautious and take necessary action due to potential flooding during the seven days.
"Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur over some parts of these regions. Residents are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions," Kenya Met warned.
The announcement comes even as some parts of the country continue to experience hot and dry weather, particularly in the Rift Valley region, the Central Highlands and South-eastern lowlands.
Temperature Advisory
Meanwhile, the meteorological department announced that daytime temperatures in the Coastal, North-eastern, and North-western regions would soar to above 30°C beginning Tuesday, October 21.
Counties that are expected to be affected by the high temperature include Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Tana River, Garissa, Isiolo and Mandera.
Likewise, night-time temperatures in Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro would go below 10°C for the next seven days.
