The Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Kamau Thugge, was sent away by a parliamentary committee on Thursday, June 5, for failing to present the required documents to support his submissions.
Thugge had appeared before the National Assembly’s Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity, which is chaired by Mandera West MP Aden Yussuf Haji.
The Governor had been summoned to respond to questions regarding ethnic diversity and equal job opportunities at the CBK.
“After carefully reviewing your presentation, the Committee has established that your report lacks the required supporting documents,” the chair stated.
"The invitation letter clearly stated that all submissions must be accompanied by documentary evidence. Unfortunately, this requirement has not been met.” Haji said.
However, the Committee found his presentation lacking. They said he did not bring evidence to back up the claims he made in his responses.
Haji asked the Governor to revise his submission and return with the necessary documents stating that his current report would not be accepted.
According to the Committee, apart from missing annexes, the documents submitted had not been signed.
“In addition to the missing annexes, the Committee noted that the report submitted by Thugge had not been signed, a procedural oversight which further contributed to its rejection,” the Committee stated.
Thugge, however, acknowledged the shortcomings in the preparation and assured the Committee that he would adhere to all procedural requirements ahead of a future appearance.
Also sent away during the same session was Paul Ngugi, the CEO of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC).
The Committee turned away Ngugi due to inadequate preparation and the lack of supporting documentation.
