Drama unfolded at the county assembly of Machakos as MCAs fought over key leadership positions.

The lawmakers freely exchanged kicks and blows after disagreeing on the positions, with reports that things started going south after alleged attempts to change key leadership roles on the minority side of the assembly.

The county assembly Speaker is said to have informed the MCAs about changes in minority leadership, citing communication from the Wiper Party.

This move was vehemently opposed by a section of the MCAs, throwing the entire sitting into disarray as some members scampered for safety.

The MCAs resisted attempts to install Mathani MCA Francis Kavyu as Minority Leader, arguing that he belonged to the Majority side.

The situation escalated when both Majority and Minority members exchanged blows and kicks, with some charging toward the Speaker's seat, according to videos and images seen by Kenyans.co.ke.

The scuffle brought the session to a standstill, as the sergeant-at-arms struggled to secure the mace.

Moments later, as one sergeant-at-arms tried to take hold of the mace, several MCAs launched a chase, demanding its return so that the session could resume.

However, this was not successful, as some leaders reportedly sustained injuries during the standoff.

According to reports, Wiper Democratic Movement had reportedly removed Felix Ngui of Katangi Ward and Mbili Ndawa of Matuu Ward, who is affiliated with the Maendeleo Chap Chap party, from their respective leadership positions within the party.

Wiper Secretariat also recommended the removal of Ngui from the County Assembly Service Board (CASB), with Deputy Majority Whip Winnifred Mutua set to replace him in the position.

This marks the second time chaos has erupted at the Machakos County Assembly. Tensions flared over the impeachment of Speaker Anne Kiusya, amid growing murmurs of a plot to oust Governor Wavinya Ndeti on April 8. MCAs allied to Kiusya clashed with those pushing for her removal.

The standoff intensified after Deputy Speaker Stephen Mwanthi accused Kiusya of failing to account for the use of public funds.
