There was drama outside the City Mortuary in Nairobi on Tuesday as an irate crowd forced Homa Bay woman representative Joyce Atieno Bensuda to cut short her media address on the death of blogger Albert Ojwang.
Bensuda was set to issue a statement moments after a pathologist's report shedding light on the death of X influencer Albert Ojwang.
Also at the City Mortuary was an animated crowd of protestors and activists, who were up in arms after the pathologist's report confirmed suspicion that Ojwang did not die from self-inflicted wounds as it was initially claimed by the police.
As soon as Bensuda took her position for her address, the crowd shouted her down, calling for her to leave the area.
Videos of the incident obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed a group of protestors moving towards the Woman rep, who was forced to cut short her speech and walk away.
Sections of the protestors could be heard loudly dismissing the lawmaker with chants of "You're killing people" and "Go back to parliament.
There was a brief standoff before tempers threatened to flare, as the woman rep was adamant she would address the media in the presence of the late Ojwang's father.
Bensuda resigned to her situation, and she can be seen walking away with her hands clasped as though asking for forgiveness from the crowd.
Several other protestors followed Bensouda as she was leaving the scene, accusing her of arriving late for the post-mortem. Others openly accused her of not being vocal enough about Ojwang's plight - an accusation which she denied.
As far as the late influencer's autopsy is concerned, pathologist Bernard Midia revealed Ojwang's body had external injuries besides his head, which effectively ruled out the police's initial version of events that his wounds were self-inflicted.
"The cause of death is very clear. A head injury, neck compression, and we also have other injuries on other parts of the body that are pointing towards assault," Midia said.
This revelation led to protests outside the City Mortuary, with traffic at the roundabout near the funeral home briefly disrupted as a result.
