Two people succumbed to injuries sustained during a road accident at Flax Forest along the Eldoret-Eldama Ravine Road in Elgeyo-Marakwet County on Wednesday night.
Reportedly, the accident involved a private car and a motorcycle, with the deceased being the occupants of the private car.
According to witnesses, the private car tried to evade an oncoming vehicle, leading it to hit a tree, after which the two succumbed on the spot.
Possibly because of the heavy rains during the accident, the personal car is said to have rolled several times before it crashed into the tree.
The motorcycle rider, on the other hand, sustained severe injuries, including breaking his leg.
In images seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the personal car was seen with its front cabin badly wrecked from the impact. The pictures also showed the slippery, wet road from the rain.
Flax Forest is a notorious black spot, located near the spot where world champion Kelvin Kiptum was involved in an accident and passed away in 2024.
On February 12, Kenya woke up to the troubling news that the renowned marathon runner had succumbed in a road accident alongside his coach, Garvais Hakizimana.
Confirming the incident, Keiyo South Sub-County police commander Abdullahi Dahir stated that the accident occurred at around 11pm on Sunday, February 11.
At the time, he also highlighted the foggy nature of the road at that time of night, leading to diminished visibility, which, coupled with several livestock on the road, might have resulted in the accident.
"We received a report that an accident had occurred at 11:17pm at the junction to the Flax area along the Eldoret-Ravine road. The area is at times foggy, and many cows are on the road at night," said Dahir.
In an eerie coincidence, Kiptum is also said to have lost control of his vehicle, veering off the road and hitting a big tree before landing in a ditch.
Kiptum and his coach died instantly, but a third passenger, a woman, survived and was rushed to the Racecourse Hospital.
