Beth Wahito, a Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Nyandarua County, has passed on in a grisly road accident along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.
Wahito passed on at 11pm on Saturday night while heading home after attending an official county government committee meeting in Naivasha.
While confirming the incident, the Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker, Stephen Wachira Waiganjo, said that the MCA was hit by a Guardian Angel bus as she attempted to drive across the road at an intersection and died on the spot.
Wahito served as a coordinator of the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), in Nyandarua County.
In a statement, Speaker Waiganjo eulogised the MCA as a leader who was unafraid to lead her electorate diligently.
"She led with courage, strength and determination. She was not afraid to speak up for what she believed was right and worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of the underserved in her community," he stated.
Besides the recent role as the Kinangop coordinator for the UDA, she held several other leadership roles in other political parties in her career spanning 30 years.
She served as a Youth Leader for the Democratic Party (DP) early in her career and also as a Chairperson of NARC–Kenya in Nyandarua.
This loss comes just days after the ruling party lost another MCA in unclear circumstances on June 12.
In a statement, the UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed that the Nanam Ward MCA and UDA party member Philip Ekuwam Lomuria had passed on while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
"Until his death, Lomuria, who also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly, was a staunch and dedicated member of the UDA Party, who exhibited zeal in undertaking his duties as a legislator at the County Assembly," the statement read in part.
"As the family, the County Assembly, and indeed the residents of Turkana County mourn the loss of their loved one and leader, the UDA Party sends its sincere condolences and stands in solidarity with them at this time of grief."
