Protests in Eldoret threatened to turn ugly after baton-wielding goons stormed the Central Business District (CBD) targeting civilians taking part in demonstrations.

In images and videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the armed individuals are seen making their way to the CBD where demonstrations were gaining momentum.

The goons disrupted the supposedly peaceful demonstrations to commemorate lives lost during anti-Finance Bill protests in 2024.

Residents who turned up in large numbers for the demonstrations were spotted openly lamenting about the presence of goons in scenes which were similar to those witnessed in Nairobi a week ago.

While it remains unclear whether the goons made their way to the protests on their own volition, anti-riot police on site did little to disperse them as they converged at one of the busy roads, waving their weapons.

Similar to scenes witnessed in Nairobi a week earlier, the goons were, at some point, overwhelmed by a growing crowd of protesters and forced to retreat.

However, in other parts of the City, the goons were caught on video indiscriminately attacking civilians , prompting them to flee as the situation in the remained volatile.

On Wednesday, June 25, protests broke out in several parts of the country, with Nairobi at the heart of the action. There were running battles between law enforcers and protesters in the city centre and along major roads, including the Thika Superhighway.

By noon, the demonstrations had escalated with officers firing teargas cannisters to disperse protesters.

Several popular political figures, including Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and Busia Senator Okiyah Omtatah, also joined the protests in Nairobi CBD.

Similar protests were also witnessed in Kisii, Nakuru and Nyeri and Mombasa counties.

The Kenya Red Cross has since confirmed several injuries in Nairobi, with one protester suffering serious injuries after a tear gas canister went off on his hand.
