One person is feared dead and several others injured following a tragic head-on collision on the Meru-Embu highway this Saturday morning.
The incident involved a General Service Unit (GSU) truck and a Meru-bound public service vehicle in the Kiracha area. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage to their front sections, indicative of the high impact of the crash.
According to reports by eyewitnesses, the truck veered into the matatu’s lane at high speed, causing a violent head-on collision.
The witness added that the emergency crews, including police and rescue teams, were dispatched to the scene and assisted with medical aid and clearing the wreckage.
The injured passengers were taken to Chuka Referral Hospital.
On the same day, a lorry ferrying cement overturned near the slaughter area in Mufu, Runyenjes, also along the Embu–Meru highway in the morning.
Three people involved in the incident escaped with minor injuries and were rushed to Kyeni Mission Hospital for medical attention.
According to witnesses, traffic police remained on site to oversee recovery operations and ensure the safe reopening of the road.
In an accident on June 27, two people died and three others were injured in a road accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway at Kiongwani area, Makueni County.
The accident involved a pickup truck transporting avocados towards Nairobi and a fuel tanker heading in the opposite direction.
The witnesses said that the two vehicles collided head-on, resulting to dead of two passengers who were in the pickup truck on the spot.
The tanker and pickup drivers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital before being referred to Makindu Level 5 Hospital
