President William Ruto has promoted his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga, to the rank of Brigadier. This elevation comes as part of the latest Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) leadership changes, signaling a significant career advancement for the close presidential aide.
Lengusuranga currently serves in the highly visible and strategically important role of the President's ADC. This position entails constant proximity to the Head of State, particularly during public engagements and ceremonial functions.
A distinguished Kenya Army officer, Brigadier Lengusuranga, hails from the KDF's elite Special Forces unit, known for their advanced tactical training and specialized military expertise.
He was appointed as President Ruto's Aide-de-Camp in October 2022, taking over from Brigadier Timothy Lekolool. Lekolool had previously served in the same capacity under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Meanwhile, Brigadier Timothy Lekolool, former President Uhuru Kenyatta's Aide-de-camp, has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Senior Directing Staff at the National Defence College.
Lekolool, who made history as the first ADC from the Kenya Navy, served as Uhuru's ADC from 2018 until 2022, the end of Uhuru's term.
During the transition, Lekolool symbolically shifted allegiance by saluting and moving to stand behind President Ruto, briefly serving as his ADC until the position was taken over by Lengusuranga.
After Lengusuranga took over, Lekolool was reassigned to the Department of Defence.
Lekolool is the son of the late Provincial Commissioner Francis Lekolool and is known for his philanthropic work alongside his military service.
As SDS at the National Defence College, Kenya's premier institution for training senior military and government officials, Lekolool will be responsible for mentoring and instructing senior officers from the KDF and allied nations on matters of defence strategy, geopolitics, and national security.
He takes over the SDS position from Victor Mburu, who left the role to pursue further studies in national security.
The promotions are part of the changes in the military restructuring that also saw Ruto appoint Major General David Kipkemboi Ketter as the new Commander of the Kenya Army, replacing Lt. Gen. David Tarus.
