Two police officers have lost their lives following a tragic shooting incident at Ng’iya Police Post in Siaya County over an alleged disagreement.
According to a report from Gem Yala Sub-County Police Commander Charles Wafula, the incident occurred at around 6am when Constable Martin Mwendwa reportedly shot and killed his superior, Corporal Chesise, who was the officer in charge of the station.
He revealed that the officer armed himself with a G3 rifle, entered the corporal’s residence, and opened fire, fatally wounding him in the chest and arms.
Reports suggest that after committing the heinous act, he soon launched an escape strategy towards Ng’iya Girls’ High School. However, the officer's attempt to flee was cut short after he was intercepted and fatally shot by fellow officers during the confrontation.
According to Wafula, they are currently looking into whether the two had a disagreement or it was a case of mental breakdown.
Additional reports indicate that the officer had initially attempted to fire several rounds in the air to scare away his colleagues who were in pursuit.
The bodies of both officers have been taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which adds to the latest worry of mental disturbance among the disciplined forces.
In February this year, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched investigations into an incident in which a police officer fatally shot his colleague in Nairobi.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the two officers were leaving an entertainment joint when an altercation ensued.

In yet another incident, a tragic shooting unfolded on the evening of Sunday, March 9, involving officers from Gigiri Police Station after a police officer allegedly opened fire on his colleagues, killing one and injuring another.
Preliminary police reports indicated that the suspect, who was intoxicated at the time, fired multiple shots inside the station’s canteen, leading to the fatal confrontation.
