A group of former Alliance Girls High School students on Thursday morning staged peaceful demonstrations to protest against alleged sexual abuse by a male teacher at the institution.
While protesting outside the school's main gate, the alumni demanded immediate action from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to root out sexual predators within the school.
Footage of the demonstrations showed the former students clad in white shirts, chanting and hoisting placards that read, "Protect the Girls, not the Predators."
During the peaceful procession, the former students criticised TSC for failing to respond to their initial letter. They, however, maintained that they would not relent until the perpetrator is brought to book.
Nonetheless, the police officers were immediately deployed to ensure peace and order during the protests. Images of the scene showed armed police officers manning the area as the former learners protested.
"We are explicitly calling for the interdiction of the teacher in line with TSC disciplinary procedures, followed by a comprehensive and impartial investigation," the alumni stated.
They further demanded that "the teacher be immediately suspended from all his duties, including the teacher's role as Christian Union patron pending complete investigations."
The calls for investigations followed a week after a former student exposed a teacher attached to the school for sexual exploitation.
The alumnus revealed that despite initial calls by some of the students for the removal of the teacher, he has remained in his position and continues to play a prominent role within the school.
Meanwhile, the latest development comes a day after the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) condemned the alleged sexual misconduct by the said teacher.
In a statement published on Monday, July 7, FIDA-Kenya expressed deep concerns over the exposé publication carried by African Uncensored, terming it 'shocking and heartbreaking.'
The Federation went ahead to express its willingness to provide both legal and psychological support for the victims. "We want every girl who has experienced abuse to know that she is not alone," read part of FIDA-Kenya's statement.
