Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has advised popular Mugithi musician Samidoh Muchoki to stick to his singing career and avoid being drawn into the politics of influence.
Speaking in the United States, the former DP cautioned the musician, alongside others from Mt Kenya, against falling prey to politicians attempting to manipulate artists into singing their praises.
"The other day, I saw them in Karen, being told to go and sing to Kenyans that SHA is working. I want to tell you, stick to music, your work is to entertain us, so that we can go to sleep happy. Don't let politicians influence you," Gachagua told the musicians, including Samidoh.
"Samidoh, don't fall into that trap. Kenyans are too smart to be cheated by anybody, and even musicians cannot cheat them; they are past that level," Gachagua continued.
Gachagua was referring to an incident in May, when DP Kithure Kindiki summoned Mount Kenya artists to Karen.
Some of the notable artists who visited the DP included Samidoh Muchoki, Karangu Muraya, Ben Githae, Jose Gatutura, DJ Fatxo, Sammy Irungu, Martin Wajanet, and Ngaruiya Junior, among others.
Both Gachagua and Samidoh have enjoyed a cordial relationship, owing to Gachagua’s fondness for Mt Kenya Mugithi songs. However, recent controversies involving DP Kindiki led to a slight fallout between the two.
After meeting Kindiki, Gachagua advised Kenyans from Mt Kenya to unfollow all those musicians who welcomed the invite, including Samidoh, accusing them of betraying the community by siding with the Kenya Kwanza government.
Gachagua's advice to Samidoh comes at a time when the musician faces challenges with his career as a police officer. In June, the National Police Service (NPS) had ordered his arrest over alleged desertion of duty.
NPS sources alleged that Samidoh had been absent from his duty post since May 27, 2025, following his redeployment to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil. His failure to report to the new station and continued absence, for over 10 days, prompted disciplinary action.
NPS also suspended the musician's salary. Samidoh is currently in the US for a musical tour.
Gachagua, who is also the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, is currently in the US for a political tour, sensitising his Wantam agenda against the Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza government.
