Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared he will not abandon the opposition, defying persistent pressure to align with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

For months, Kalonzo has faced recurrent attempts by supporters of President William Ruto to persuade him to join government ranks.

In a statement he shared on Saturday, July 19, the veteran politician reiterated his unwavering commitment to holding the government accountable. Kalonzo, who has consistently criticized the Ruto-led administration over unfulfilled promises, affirmed he would remain firm in advocating for peace and defending the rights of Kenyans.

"I will never join this rogue and criminal regime, and I refuse to participate in any type of dialogue with a regime that has our children's blood on its hands," Kalonzo said.

"Make no mistake: the Ruto dictatorship is not interested in peace. It feeds on fear, violence, and intimidation. That is their modus operandi. But we shall not remain silent nor be silenced. The spirit of resistance is alive," he added.

On Tuesday, June 17, the Labour Cabinet Secretary  Alfred Mutua called on Kalonzo to leave the opposition, which is led by the Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, over its "divisive and disrespectful" political strategy.

"Even if Kalonzo is humble and fears Gachagua, he should be talking to him and telling him what is right and wrong, because the disrespect Gachagua is showing us now, he used it to claim that we cannot give enough votes," Mutua said.

Speaking in Kitui on June 9, National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang'ula, said that Kalonzo should not let anyone dictate his political path.

“To my brother Kalonzo, don’t allow anybody to make friends or create enemies for you. Your friends are not necessarily someone’s friends, and your enemies are not someone’s enemies,” Wetangula said.

Boniface Mwangi Arrest

Following Boniface Mwangi's arrest, Kalonzo, who strongly castigated the arrest, assured that the opposition has dispatched a team of advocates to ensure that the activist is released as soon as possible.

"I also strongly condemn the arrest of civil rights activist Boniface Mwangi, a bold and fearless advocate for truth and justice. I have directed our legal team to do everything they can to ensure his release at the earliest time possible," Kalonzo said.

Boniface Mwangi was arrested on Saturday, July 19, at his home in the Lukenya area, Mavoko Sub-County, in Machakos County the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), over terror facilitation.
