Kenya Roads Board Releases Ksh3.68B to Counties for Maintenance, Repairs

The Kenya Roads Board (KRB) has announced that it has released Ksh3.68 billion from the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) to counties for the 2024/2025 financial year.

In a statement on Tuesday, July 22, the Board stated that the Ksh3,682,774,150 released is intended for the maintenance of county roads.

"In the FY 2024/2025, the Board released Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) amounting to Ksh3,682,774,150 for maintenance of county roads," the notice reads.

This amount was paid on June 30 and represents 35 per cent of the total Ksh10.52 billion owed for the 2024/2025 financial year.

The released payments came after the court ruled that the money should be shared with counties. Previously, some counties had been excluded from the fund, a move the court ruled as unconstitutional.

The Board urged county governments to submit detailed work plans for the amounts released to the respective KRB regional offices in Kisumu, Nyeri, Garissa, Eldoret, Isiolo, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Machakos, as well as to its email, by August 12, 2025.

Kitui County received the highest amount with Ksh152.42 million, followed by Makueni with Ksh146.89 million, Nairobi Ksh120.06 million, and Kiambu Ksh118.95 million.

Counties like Kajiado received Ksh106.35 million, Meru Ksh102.84 million, NyeriKsh 100.35 million, Narok Ksh97.35 million, Turkana Ksh88.14 million, Kilifi Ksh85.82 million, Uasin Gishu Ksh86.29 million, Marsabit Ksh83.51 million, Kakamega Ksh81.32 million, and Laikipia Ksh80.81 million.

Taita Taveta got Ksh78.39 million, Nyandarua Ksh78.02 million, Kwale Ksh71.76 million, Baringo Ksh71.31 million, Kirinyaga Ksh67.26 million, Mandera Ksh66.01 million, Isiolo Ksh64.26 million, Bungoma Ksh63.91 million, Garissa Ksh63.86 million, and Nandi Ksh65.15 million.

The board added that Mombasa received Ksh45.60 million, Kwale Ksh71.76 million, Samburu Ksh60.86 million, Trans-Nzoia Ksh52.85 million, Tharaka Nithi Ksh55.94 million, Embu Ksh73.71million, and Wajir Ksh90.53 million.

Counties like Turkana were allocated Ksh88.14million, West Pokot Ksh57.83 million, Siaya Ksh57.32 million,  Kisumu Ksh68.30 million.

Homa Bay received Ksh61.06 million, Migori Ksh56.92 million, Kisii Ksh60.71 million, and Nyamira got the lowest amount with Ksh41.41 million, followed by Busia at Ksh45.52 million and Elgeyo Marakwet Ksh52.76 million in the bottom three.
