The Motorist Association of Kenya has called for action against popular musician Bahati over a viral video showing the artist inappropriately interacting with his partner while driving.
In what the MAK described as a blatant disregard for road safety, the association urged the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to intervene and ensure Bahati is held accountable.
"The viral video showing a musician licking his spouse’s foot while driving is a clear display of recklessness and disregard for road safety," MAK said in a statement.
The clip, reportedly capturing the two celebrating their wedding anniversary while driving, showed the pair inside a car that was in motion.
In the video, Bahati's partner was seated in the front passenger seat, stretching her legs across onto Bahati, who was in the driver's seat. Bahati was seen fondling her legs.
Expectedly, the clip went viral, with critics going after Bahati for allegedly resorting to stunts popularly referred to as ragebait to gain more social media attention.
MAK, in their statement, reiterated that Bahati was not only engaging in an act that was morally questionable but was also flouting traffic rules as per Section 49 of the Traffic Act.
The Act specifically penalises anyone who drives "without due care and attention", and Bahati's acts of interacting with a passenger's legs can be counted as a form of reckless driving.
"Such behaviour constitutes distracted and dangerous driving – serious offences under traffic law. Failure to act sets a dangerous precedent that may embolden others to engage in life-threatening theatrics behind the wheel," MAK added.
"Driving is not a playground; it is a responsibility that demands full attention and respect for the lives of others on the road."
In recent weeks, a trend has emerged where videos of renowned personalities flouting traffic rules have been called out by Kenyans, prompting action from the culprits.
Last week, Kibra Member of Parliament Peter Orero was forced to issue an apology to Kenyans hours after his driver was fined for violating traffic rules following a road rage incident which went viral last week.
Orero courted controversy after a widely shared clip showed him and his driver, George Oduor, hurling expletives at CNN journalist Larry Madowo, who impeded the lawmaker's car from driving on the wrong side.
