The Kenya Urban Road Authority (KURA) has announced that the new flyover at the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road junction near Junction Mall is set to be completed by July 2027.
In a statement on Saturday, July 3, KURA confirmed that the four-lane flyover near Junction Mall will include improved junctions, walkways, and cycling lanes.
According to the authority, the project will be fundamental in modernising transport and easing traffic congestion and enhancing safety for all road users. According to KURA, the flyover is part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ngong Road corridor.
"Construction of the Ngong Rd–Naivasha Rd (Junction Mall) Flyover is well underway! The project features a 4-lane flyover, improved junctions, walkways & cycling lanes, set to ease congestion and boost urban mobility. Completion is set for July 2027," KURA said.
"This flyover is part of the Ngon'g road corridor development, and the works involve constructing a dual carriageway and a bridge approximately 800 metres," it added.
The construction of the flyover comes at a time when the authority has ramped up efforts to construct and rehabilitate the city's transport infrastructure.
According to KURA, it had commenced other major road works across the country's capital, such as the rehabilitation of the Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue route and Ngong Road.
Furthermore, in a statement on Friday, July 25, the authority further clarified that it was erecting a hoarding wall along Kenyatta Avenue within Nairobi's Central Business District for maintenance work.
According to the authority, the temporary walls were necessary due to the complexity of the road maintenance works, which are expected to last for several days.
KURA clarified the walls after a section of Kenyans expressed safety concerns over the construction of the walls along one of Nairobi's busiest roads.
"We wish to clarify that the structures along Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi, are part of a temporary hoarding wall, erected to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists during ongoing construction works," KURA said.
"Due to the complexity of the project, public safety is key and remains our top priority. Kindly disregard any misleading information," it added.
According to the KURA Director General, Silas Kinoti, the authority is also focusing on the completion of other stalled road projects across the country.
"What I can tell you for free at KURA, we don’t entertain excuses. Stalled roads across the country must be completed within the stipulated timelines. Contractors know: there are no weekends when you're behind schedule," Kinoti said.
