The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has addressed concerns raised over the erection of barrier walls along Kenyatta Avenue within Nairobi's Central Business District.

In a statement on Friday morning, KURA clarified that the structures were part of a hoarding wall, erected to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

The Authority noted that the walls were only temporary and had been put up to prevent any potential harm to road users during the ongoing maintenance works.

According to the road agency, the temporary hoarding walls are necessary due to the complexity of the road maintenance works, which are expected to last for several days.

While expressing its commitment to ensuring public safety during the construction works, the Authority urged Kenyans to disregard any misleading information regarding the project.

"We wish to clarify that the structures along Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi, are part of a temporary hoarding wall, erected to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists during ongoing construction works," KURA clarified.

"Due to the complexity of the project, public safety is key and remains our top priority. Kindly disregard any misleading information," it added.

KURA was forced to address the matter after a section of Kenyans expressed safety concerns over the construction of the walls along one of Nairobi's busiest roads.

In the same vein, the Authority announced the resumption of maintenance works on other major roads across Nairobi as part of a broader strategy to improve mobility and road safety.

In its announcement on Thursday evening, KURA stated that it had officially commenced works along the Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue route and Ngong Road.

Other routes currently under maintenance include the Nyerere Road Interchange and the Upper Hill–Haile Selassie Overpass, among other major roads within Nairobi.

"We’re back on site! Construction has officially resumed on the Kenyatta Avenue, Ngong Road, Nyerere Road Interchange, the Haile Selassie Overpass, and the associated road network upgrades in Nairobi County. We thank you for your continued patience," the Authority announced.
