The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a 30-day temporary closure of a section of the Kisumu Boys-Mamboleo (A1) Road in Kisumu.
In a notice on August 4, the authority revealed that the closure will happen between Thursday, August 7, to Friday, September 5.
The traffic disruption is expected to facilitate the construction and improvement works on the road section.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public of a temporary closure and traffic diversion along the Kisumu Boys Mamboleo (A1) Road from Thursday, 7th August, 2025, to Friday, 5th September, 2025,” part of the statement read.
“This is to allow for scheduled construction and improvement works on the road section. During this period, traffic will be maintained by diverting vehicles to one side of the dual carriageway.”
Due to the diversion of traffic, KeNHA urged motorists to follow a proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.
The section to be affected is between the Kondele Roundabout on your way to Migosi to the Mamboleo Roundabout.
Weeks ago, on July 24, KeNHA announced the commencement of rehabilitation works on the Kisumu–Busia highway, a crucial regional transport corridor that has been in disrepair for a long time.
Responding to growing concerns from road users over the poor state of the highway, KeNHA confirmed that a maintenance contractor had already been onboarded to begin restoration works.
"The Authority has onboarded a maintenance contractor for the aforementioned road section, who will be instructed on the level of service expected and the kind of maintenance to be done on the road," KeNHA stated.
The Kisumu–Busia highway forms part of the Northern Corridor, a vital trade route connecting the port of Mombasa to Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the DRC.
It handles significant volumes of cargo traffic daily and is crucial for cross-border trade and regional integration.
