Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has advised Kenyans to avoid sharing Rigathi Gachagua's videos on social media, alleging that the widespread sharing of his controversial remarks is encouraging the former DP to fuel national instability.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday August 11, Murkomen expressed concern that Gachagua’s recent statements, some of which touch on sensitive national security matters, are being amplified by social media users who may not fully understand the implications of the remarks.
"It's no longer a joke who the former Deputy President is at the moment, most of you share posts of his messages and so forth, you are actually the ones who are encouraging a person who is unwell to continue saying more things that are going to hurt our country," the Interior CS said.
The comments by the CS follow the recent remarks by the former DP where he alleged that senior state officials, including President William Ruto, had met with Al-Shabaab leaders in Mandera.
Murkomen questioned the mental fitness of the former DP, suggesting that his behavior and contradictory statements may be symptomatic of psychological distress.
According to Murkomen, if Gachagua fails to record a statement regarding his recent remarks, he is either a pathological liar or he needs urgent help due to his mental state.
The CS alleged that, if the former DP was suffering from mental health issues, Kenyans were exacerbating the situation by sharing such videos.
"If the former DP is not going to record a statement about what he said about the Al Shabaab and terrorism, then the right thing for him is that we check him in a mental institution for mentality assessment because his level of contradiction can only be that he either is a pathological liar or his a mental case that needs treatment," Murkomen continued.
Consequently, the Interior CS has urged Kenyans to exercise digital responsibility and avoid sharing content that could undermine public trust, incite unrest, and promote insecurity.
In one of the widely shared videos, of his numerous discussions in the US, Gachagua challenged Murkomen directly, daring him to arrest him, while maintaining that he was not afraid of apprehension.
Gachagua, who is in the United States for a two-month tour, says he will publicly announce the date and time of his return, even as he warned Kindiki and Murkomen against issuing threats towards him.
"When my day to go to Kenya is due, I will announce the date, hour, and flight number so that whoever is interested in arresting me can go ahead and do it," the former DP said.
