New American-inspired buses have begun streaming onto the Kenyan roads, with the first of their kind debuting in Eldoret on Monday, August 11.

The buses, termed as  'American Spaces Bus', are a product of innovation and cross-cultural partnership between the US in collaboration with the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS).

The buses mark a step toward decentralise access to digital tools, learning resources, and U.S. programmes for youth across Kenya.

''We lit up the City of Champions with our new American Spaces Bus proudly built by Kenyan hands and powered by American innovation,'' US Chargé d’Affaires Carla Benini revealed.

The American Spaces Bus is a mobile innovation hub designed to travel across towns, campuses, and counties, bringing cutting-edge technology and educational opportunities directly to communities.

The bus is equipped with free Wi-Fi, American laptops, a 3D printer, and digital maker tools.

It also features a podcast and video studio for content creation, storytelling, and media training.

Inside, visitors will find a curated selection of U.S. books, learning materials, and speaker programmes designed to foster creativity, entrepreneurship, and global awareness.

The buses are part of the broad strategy under the American Spaces, where the United States and Kenya connect openly, practically, and with purpose. These U.S. government–supported hubs hope to help young Kenyans develop skills, access opportunities, and shape their future.

Already, 600 such hubs exist worldwide, in universities, malls, libraries, and embassies across 140+ countries.

Kenya’s six spaces are among the most active and impactful, with the bus addition bringing forth more accessibility.

The US Embassy is now inviting Kenyans to help name the first bus. They wrote, “Now, we need your help: what should we name it?” and Kenyans responded with very interesting names.
