Nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian has sued her former lover, Musa Leyumpa, accusing him of persistently claiming she is his wife despite her rejecting him.
Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, Hezena took legal action on Tuesday, August 12, with the genesis of the issue being a planned Samburu customary wedding that was later revoked.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Hezena confirmed the development, disclosing that since the marriage was cancelled, Leyumpa had been on a mission to destroy her reputation.
She further revealed that Leyumpa had been violent and abusive and had resorted to using social media platforms and influencers to soil her reputation, which could potentially harm her political career.
On her engagement to Leyumpa, the senator clarified that, contrary to popular reports, no dowry was paid to secure her hand in marriage.
Hezena noted that the Ksh100,000 “ropiyani e loip” he gave was merely a token under Samburu tradition, an amount she has since returned in full. She added that Leyumpa was actually supposed to send Ksh50,000 but went ahead and sent double, an issue that displeased the elders.
“I have sued the guy and I want to set the record straight that we are not together anymore. He has caused me so much harm and I want him to face the full force of the law,” Hezena noted.
At the time of the wedding’s cancellation, Hezena said that a background check into Leyumpa led her to call off the wedding.
While taking Leyumpa to court, Hezena also sought temporary orders to restrain her ex from pestering or contacting her in any way.
The matter is set to be heard inter partes on September 22, 2025, when both parties will present their arguments on whether the orders should be extended or modified.
The latest comes after Hezena previously claimed that her life was in danger, pointing an accusing finger at a well-politically connected family in Samburu County and their allies.
In a statement released in June, Hezena said that if anything were to happen to her, one particular family in Samburu and its political allies should be held responsible.
“To my friends and relatives: If anything happens to me, one family in Samburu and its allies in the political class should be blamed,” she stated.
